The company was originally founded in 1926 as a manufacturer of colored stuccos and interior plasters, which remained popular through the 1930's and 40's. In the early 1950's, recognizing that oil paints of the day were prone to peeling and fading, California Products become a pioneer in the field of latex house paints, working with the new acrylic emulsion binders that were being produced at the time. The company's paint line was quickly expanded, and by the late 1950's, the California name became synonymous with technical superiority and unsurpassed service. In the early 1980's, paint color computers were making big industry news, and California Paints was once again a technological pioneer. In collaboration with Colorgen Corporation, it was one of the first companies to make color computers available to its dealers. Today, California Paints continues to blaze a trail in the paint industry. Recently, its line of 2010 Interior and Exterior Finishes set a new standard for 100% Acrylic Latex technology that other companies are still trying to equal.
